Year 1 2018 - 2019

Mrs Flynn

Mrs Wright

Welcome to Year 1!

Our new topic is ‘What’s behind the drawbridge?’ and we will learn about castles and dragons, knights and princesses! We have some fantastic texts that will act as a starting point and inspiration for our written work, which will include story and descriptive writing, factual writing and poetry. We have planned a trip to Beeston Castle which we are really looking to.

General information

Mrs Wright will teach the children every Monday and Tuesday. Mrs Flynn will teach on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The children will be supported by Mrs Marke every morning.

Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, between 8.45 and 9am.

PE kits will be needed in school every day. PE lessons will be on Mondays and Thursdays, but we will also be doing extra sessions at different points in the week.

Homework will be set each week on a Wednesday. It will usually consist of a Mathletics activity, a mental maths challenge, and a list of words to learn on Spellodrome, as well as daily reading. Each half term we will also set a topic-related task or project. Your child’s mathletics/spellodrome login details in their new reading records.
